One of the Most Epic Games in MLB History: The 2004 ALCS Game 4

October 17, 2004, will forever be remembered as one of the most thrilling nights in Major League Baseball history. The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees faced off in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, and what followed was a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone involved.

The Yankees got off to a strong start, scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to a home run by Hideki Matsui. By the end of the fourth inning, the Yankees had extended their lead to 4-3, and things were not looking good for the Red Sox.

But then, in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Red Sox's David Ortiz hit a game-tying home run, sparking a rally that would change the course of history. In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the score tied at 4-4, Ortiz came up to bat again and hit a walk-off home run, sealing the victory for the Red Sox and sending the crowd into a frenzy.

The game was not without its controversies, however. In the top of the 12th inning, Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit a ground ball and ran towards first base. As he approached the base, Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo tried to tag him, and Rodriguez swatted at his arm, knocking the ball out of his hand. The umpire initially called Rodriguez safe, but after a conference, they ruled him out for interference, costing the Yankees a crucial run.

The Red Sox would go on to win Games 5, 6, and 7, becoming the first team in MLB history to win a playoff series after being down 3-0. The team would go on to win the World Series, ending the "Curse of the Bambino" and cementing their place in baseball history.
